Housekeeper phone screen questions
Housekeeping hiring is high-volume and physical. The phone screen checks experience, pace, physical fit, and the schedule, in the candidate's language if that is easier for them.
Eight questions, and what to listen for
Ask them in this order. The first two sort the pool; the middle ones show judgment; the last ones settle logistics before anyone books an interview.

Tell me about your housekeeping or cleaning experience: hotels, hospitals, offices, or homes.
Listen for: Setting and tenure. Hotel room attendants know the room-per-shift pace.

About how many rooms did you clean per shift, and how did you keep quality up at that pace?
Listen for: A number (14 to 18 is common) and a method.

Are you comfortable with the physical side: bending, pushing a cart, lifting linens, being on your feet all shift?
Listen for: A plain yes or a stated limit.

Have you worked with cleaning chemicals and followed safety instructions for them?
Listen for: Familiarity with dilution and labels.

Are weekends and holidays workable? Those are our busiest days.
Listen for: A direct answer.

Tell me about a time a guest or supervisor pointed out something you missed. What did you do?
Listen for: Fix it, no defensiveness.

Red flags on the call
- No sense of rooms-per-shift pace
- Weekends not workable
- Physical requirements not workable
- Defensive about feedback
Keep it short
Five questions, four to six minutes. Housekeeper candidates are usually applying to several jobs at once; a screen they can finish between shifts gets finished. Save the deeper questions for the interview, where the candidate has already answered these once.
Never ask about age, health, family, religion, or national origin, and do not follow up if a candidate volunteers them.
