Catch the fake reference before you make the offer.
Reference Agent checks every completed reference for who actually answered. When something does not add up, the summary tells you what and why.
What it looks for on every reference
The candidate's own number
A reference whose phone number matches the candidate's own is flagged. It is one of the clearest signals that a reference needs a closer look.
A number other applicants gave too
If another applicant in your account listed the same phone number as a reference, both are flagged. Shared numbers are how reference rings show up.
A relationship nobody confirmed
Every reference is asked how they know the candidate. If they never confirm the relationship the candidate described, the summary says so.
Answers that sound coached
Near-identical wording across a candidate's references, or answers that read like a script, are raised for a closer look.
About reference fraud
What can make a reference look suspicious? +
Examples include the candidate's own number, one number used by several applicants, a relationship the reference does not confirm, or unusually similar answers across references. A signal is not proof of fraud; it tells your team what to review.
Does Reference Agent reject a candidate with a flagged reference? +
No. It raises the flag in the reference summary with the reason, and your team decides. A shared number can be innocent, for example two siblings who worked for the same family.
What else does Reference Agent do? +
It texts each reference, asks your questions by text or on a short call at a time they choose, sends reminders, and returns a rating out of 5, would-hire-again, strengths, concerns and a read across all of a candidate's references.
What does it cost? +
Reference Agent is free while it is in beta.
