Why we charge per completed screen and nothing else
No seats, no monthly minimum, no charge for missed calls or voicemail. What counts as a completed screen, and why the model matches how hiring actually happens.

Recruiting software is usually priced for the buyer’s calendar, not the buyer’s hiring. Annual seats, per-recruiter licenses, tiers that assume a steady volume of roles all year. Hourly hiring is not steady. It spikes in the weeks before a season and goes quiet after.
So PhoneScreen charges for one thing: a completed screen.
The model
- Your first ten screens are free. Use them on a real role.
- After that, four dollars per completed screen, billed monthly for what you used.
- No seats. Invite the whole team.
- No monthly minimum. A quiet month costs nothing.
That is the whole price list.
What “completed” means
A screen is completed when a candidate has answered your questions and the scorecard exists. Specifically, we do not charge for:
- calls that reach voicemail;
- calls the candidate does not answer or ends before the questions;
- candidates who decline the role in the first minute;
- a call that drops because of a bad line.
If there is no scorecard to read, there is nothing to pay for. The status on each screen tells you which category it fell into, and the billing page counts only the completed ones.
If you would not have paid a recruiter for the call, you should not pay us for it either.
Why per screen and not per role
We tried a per-role subscription. It is simpler to explain and it makes revenue smoother, which is nice for us. It was worse for customers in two ways.
First, it punished small roles. A single-hire role with six applicants cost the same as a warehouse opening with six hundred. Second, it made people hesitate to open roles, which is the opposite of what a screening tool should encourage.
Per completed screen tracks the value directly. A role with six applicants costs about the price of a lunch. A role with six hundred costs what a recruiter’s week would have, and you get every one of them screened the same way in a day.
What about the ATS integrations?
Included. The API, webhooks, Zapier, and the direct integrations with Indeed, CareerPlug, Hireology, ApplicantPro, and Workstream are all part of the same price. Screens started by an integration cost the same as screens started by a link.
Predictability
The billing page shows completed screens for the month so far and the running total. Most customers find that the number tracks their applicant volume closely enough to budget from, and that it is a fraction of what the same coverage would cost in recruiter hours.
If your volume is large enough that a different arrangement makes sense, write to us. But start with the ten free screens and see what a fully screened applicant pool looks like first.
